Bentonite

A natural mixture of different clays, mainly montmorillonite.

The mineral has strong water absorption properties. A water-bentonite mixture shows thixotropic behavior.

It is used as an additive for ceramics, as absorbant for heavy metals and poisons, as a binder, as cosmetics component, for varnish and paint production, for water treatment, as cat litter, for soil improvement, etc.
